Nathaniel Kelly was hand picked by the Ottawa Impact Commissioners to head the Ottawa County Health Department. During the Covid pandemic the Ottawa County health department learned of a coronavirus outbreak at Joe Moss daughter’s Christian school and ordered the school to comply with the state’s mask mandate. When they refused, state and county officials chained shut the school’s doors for more than a week.
This set the stage for the takeover of the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners by Ottawa Impact and the attack on the health department administrator Adeline Hambley, although she was not the health department administrator at the time the school was shut down.
Common sense
From the following information about the qualifications of Nathaniel Kelly and his own words in interviews and posts, it is clear to me, the Ottawa Impact Commissioners are determined to find an administrator who will not comply with the state’s direction during a health crises. In other words, someone who will not do their job in compliance with state law.
Regardless of how you feel about mandates, vaccinations in general or Covid vaccinations specifically, it is unclear why the Ottawa Impact commissioners would try to illegally fire the health department administrator for no cause who had nothing to do with the mandates or Covid vaccinations, except to put in her place an extremist and conspiracy theorist who will follow the Ottawa Impact Position Statement (a position statement Ottawa Impact commissioners have signed a contract to uphold) which says:
“We reject mandated BUSINESS closures. We value every job as “essential,” and will protect the right of individuals to operate and/or be employed by their place of business without threat or intimidation.”
“We reject mandated SCHOOL closures, social distancing, masking of children, quarantining of school children (exclusion from school), which deprive children of freedom, education, development of speech and social skills, important life moments, and contribute to the degradation of their mental health and increased suicide risks.”
It follows then, the hand picked health department administrator, one nominated without the normal HR interviews and sourcing expected when public county employees are hired, will follow Ottawa Impact direction and not the state of Michigan if the two conflict.

I’m Nate Kelly, I’m with (noise). I don’t give my address for security purposes. Um, I came here livid at what was done to me and the rest of the people at the last visit when you brought in that race grifter to (noise) gaslight the crowd like we had no idea what was going on.
I would like an apology for that. And then I hear that you are trying to perpetuate this again as you work your way around again and reword things like we are not going to get it. And then you were going to. You were going to create the vision while trying to create equality and that is not something we are prepared to allow.
We, here, are coming to you as the people who put you in place to represent us. Like you said you represent us. These people here are asking you, hey, represent us. Do not drive a wedge into our family units. If the person who had come here knew about Hudsonville. They would know that Hudsonville people are very very basic. We, the people in my community, especially the people of color are brought in from third world countries. Everything else.
We have true African Americans in my neighborhood. I don’t need these people coming here who are living an amazing life wiith people who love them, communities who love them. To mean, hey, guess what? You shouldn’t like the people who brought you in because of this, they did this to you. This something that happened. That is not something that is going to bring them together, make them love their family. They are not going to get any equity or equality out of it. (frustrated noise) You look at me. You have no idea what I am talking about. Really?
