What is extremism?
Ottawa Impact and the Ottawa Impact commissioners have complained when the media and citizens speaking at the open comments in the county commissioners meetings have labeled them extreme. Many Ottawa County residents have expressed their displeasure and concern that Ottawa Impact has brought extremism to their home – to Ottawa County.
Today Republicans and Democrats go to great extremes to disagree with each other. I believe there is hope that moderates of any or no party can come together and agree on what is extreme and that we will no longer tolerate it. Let’s see if this premise could be true!
Advocate Violence
Anyone who commits, advocates or condones violence for anything other than national defense against a foreign power.
No matter whether it is Black Lives Matter protests or the January 6th insurrection, it is not reasonable in a civil society to try to solve our differences with violence.
Ignore the Rule of Law
Ignoring and violating the courts, elections, governmental institutions, laws and the proper constitutional provisions provided for protest.
The constitution provides free speech and peaceful protest, access to courts and other legal avenues to correct injustice. Election deniers, political retribution, gerrymandering and other forms of “cheating” to gain political power is extreme.
Making up so called constitutional privileges such as constitutional counties, Christian nationalism and sanctuary counties undermines the rule of law is counterproductive to preservation of our democracy.
